Petition to Connecticut State and Local Government Leaders
Consumers across Connecticut call on our elected leaders to ensure that consumers receive the benefits of the legislation that was passed in 2007 to provide Connecticut residents with real choice in video service. HB 7182 An Act Concerning Competitive Video Service was passed by overwhelming majorities of the House and Senate and signed by Governor Rell.
The video service law was passed so that new competitors could give consumers real choices, better pricing options, and more control over what they see on their televisions. Consumers want the opportunity to choose from multiple video service providers, select from a wider range of pricing options, and design the video experience that best suits their needs.
While consumers have secured an important victory with the passage of the bill, we must make sure that we continue moving forward and encourage new companies to offer a competitive video service in the state. This will allow Connecticut consumers to reap the full benefits of a competitive, innovative marketplace.
Unfortunately, very few Connecticut residents have a choice in video services today. Competition is slow in advancing and policy makers must continue to push to open the market for competitors. Without competition, cable television rates will continue to rise. State government should act to foster consumer choice and not to block competition.
We urge you to continue the fight for consumer choice and competition in video service products !! Thank you.
